Site Upgrade

Posted by trevelyan at February 7, 2010

Hi everyone,

If you're reading this you've found our new server. Everything should run a bit faster and we have a bunch of new features that we'll throw into operation later this week. You'll probably notice some of the changes right away though. We hope you like them but feel free to complain about the ones you don't.

We're pushing this out a bit early in order to take advantage of the usual Sunday lull in traffic. There are still a few issues with font-size consistency on some page, but we're expecting to get these fixed in the next twenty four hours. If you notice anything else acting up, ping us at service@popupchinese.com and we'll get it fixed as quickly as we can.

In the meantime, if something isn't working as expected and it's interfering with your study plans, you can continue to use the older version of the site by visiting http://old.popupchinese.com. New user registration is closed at the old site, but everything else should be working as always.

More info to follow. If you have any questions, comments or bug reports, why not leave them in the comment section below.

Like the treatment of the new posts down the side. Should be easier to keep up to date on things than when you had the separate community section last year.

@barrister,

Layout is all intentional - the sidebar is intended to exist independently of the community section in the header menu if need be. Generally, we're trying to keep the front page the focus for community discussion, so people can see immediately what has changed, etc. on a new visit.

You should check out the new premium section if you're still working on the HSK these days. I think you'll find it the new calendar functionality useful. :)
