hi,

This sentence pops up as one of the test questions. The correct answer is 或者 but I still can't figure out what it means.

In this context does 或者 mean 'look for my friend instead'

In this context 或者 means "or".

yes. 或者 is commonly used for giving the alternative in positive sentences, but in questions 还是 is used =) Enjoy Chinese! =)
